“Voices from an impossible place”, by Diana Rangel, is the winning essay of the First Prize for Research and Essay Therapeutic Applications of Art FMJJ 2018. “In 2011 I met a group of boys, known as “thugs” by their nearby community. Our exchanges reached photography, narrative, trying to tell a story, explain some meanings. Months later many things happened, both they and I began to question the priorities of our lives, something happened in this exchange. Many of them discovered something different in themselves and decided to follow it, others did not. Two years later we did a traveling exhibition through the neighborhoods of Petare. Today we continue to tell this story. Through a research essay, written chronicles, videos and photographic testimonies, this work tells the subjective experiences of a group of criminals and their way of understanding the world ” Diana Rangel
